Understanding god

Image
Don't be scared by the title; every one of us is trying to find the god; it's just that we have not been able to formalize what we are looking for in our minds. Let me take you back on my journey of this GOD concept. I was born in a Hindu family, and like everyone else around me, I also understood god as a heavenly entity who is supposed to be respected and listened to. I surely enjoyed all the festivals associated with different gods of Hinduism, but as I grew older and read a little science, the image and understanding of god started to fall apart. Was I becoming too smart to see through society's fake narrative about god? All those customs and rituals stopped making sense to me. I even stopped sitting in the Diwali pooja and all other festivals. I stopped going to the temples as I realized that an idle would not help me pass the exam or anything else. So what's the point of even visiting a temple. As I grew older, even the fun I had with the activities associated wit...

We somehow can't choose what's right for us

Image
A few weeks ago, while in Greece, an unexpected flight delay happened; I pulled up my earphones and started listening to a lecture on god by JP. As he delved into the mysteries of God, I found myself overcome with emotion; while my friend who was sitting beside me was enjoying his memes, I moved to tears. You may be wondering right now, why am I talking about my crying experience? I share this to talk about my deep realization that day and lay the foundation for this blog. For the first time in my life, I grasped the essence of why Jesus is considered divine. JP's words resonated: "Who can truly be a Christian if not Christ himself?" But what does it even mean to be Christian? Why is Christ perceived as the only true Christian? The underlying message is profound: to tread the path of absolute righteousness so deeply that you'd lay down your life for the idea. The pain of not grasping the true nature of God surpasses all other sufferings. Christ's unwavering commit...

Equality can't exist

Image
The notion of equality has long intrigued me, and my recent foray into political ideologies has only deepened my contemplation on the matter. When broached with the topic, many respond with an instinctual affirmation: "Of course, everyone should be treated equally and respectfully." Yet, others might highlight the longstanding societal inequalities, pointing out how women were relegated to secondary roles for most of human history. It's only relatively recently that they gained the right to vote, among other rights. But such observations can sometimes devolve into a narrative of perpetual victimhood, sidestepping a comprehensive exploration of the root issues. Let's attempt to delve deeper, infusing more nuance into our understanding of equality. To do so, we must travel back 2500 years to Athens, circa 600 BC, where the seedlings of democracy took root. This Athenian democracy, known to us as a direct democracy, was distinctive. It conferred voting privileges to a se...

Education is useless tool for a fool

Image
During my three-year sojourn in Europe, I've had the privilege of interacting and sharing my home with a vast array of individuals from all walks of life - from movie directors to waiters, architects to lawyers, spanning a range of races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. This rich mosaic of experiences taught me that intelligence and wisdom don't necessarily align with societal labels. Interestingly, even education, often viewed as a shield against ignorance, doesn't guarantee immunity from it. At times, highly educated individuals can be the most closed-minded, reminiscent of possessing a sharp katana encased in its sheath — a powerful tool rendered useless. Rationality isn’t innate; it's honed through education, critical thinking, and embracing varied perspectives. The tragedy of the modern education system, however, is its repetitiveness and often uninspiring nature. By graduation, many students yearn to cast their knowledge into oblivion, much like tossing it i...

Love is not an emotion, it's a state of mind

Image
Get ready for a rollicking ride as we dissect love with a scalpel of humor, a dash of philosophy, and a pinch of self-reflection. I'm about to stick my neck out on the chopping block by declaring that love isn't an emotion. Right about now, there might be a chorus of "say what now?" reverberating in your head, but bear with me. People often say love is an emotion, and reasoning shouldn't get its sticky fingers involved. Well, I beg to differ. If love was merely an emotion, why does it set off fireworks of sadness, happiness, anxiety, and a whole roller coaster of other feelings? Can you feel hatred whilst drowning in empathy? Or remain calm in the face of uncontrollable rage? I didn't think so.  Love, my dear folks, isn't just another member in the emotional spectrum. It's like the master of ceremonies, a life mode that brings forth all other feelings. It's akin to other grand human experiences, like spirituality or the stoic, cool resolve of a war...

The art of conversation

Image
Conversations are not just words but a proper art form; we need conversations to evolve into such intelligent creatures. I recently listened to Michio Kaku (Founder of String Theory) discussing intelligent lives in the universe. He said that out of the three necessary things that will make an alien race intelligent, the ability to convey ideas is one. And how do we convey ideas through conversations? I have been thinking extensively about conversation, speech, and language lately. How humans evolved to speak is still unclear to the scientific community, it is still one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of our time. Conversations are not mere words put together; they give meaning to our minds. For a second, think that you don't have any vocabulary, and now try to think of any idea; it is nearly impossible. Only a handful of ideas can be completely thought out without words. Words in a certain order magically translate to meaning in our lives. Individual words are useless; only when ...

The Curtains of Comfort

Image
I recently met a fascinating individual, and we talked about knowledge, information, and wisdom. Inspired by his podcasts, I'm writing on a similar topic while borrowing the name from his podcasts. I've been walking the path of intellectualism for a while now, not that I've become one. Nowadays, I spend most of my time learning about new ideas and concepts. I rarely watch movies and series and rarely go out and party; instead, I watch lectures from all walks of life, but why? Why did a person like me, a complete extrovert till a few years ago, start shying away from his past habits? It is partly due to my shift to Belgium and rest due to the new and exciting world of ideas. Unfortunately, the path of intellectualism doesn't necessarily lead to happiness, and often you find yourself troubled for no apparent reason. I don't even remember how often I've lost my sleep because of an idea. And the biggest problem is that no one can help me get these answers; I must wa...
