The Dark Side of Success

Who doesn't wants to be successful, right? But very few understand the importance and need for success in their lives. I know everyone succeeds in some or the other way in their lives, but I believe that every one of us once in a while dreams of being as successful as Elon Musk or any other famous personality. We keep hearing all the wonderful stories from the lives of famous and successful personalities, we fancy their lifestyle and in doing so often set ourselves on the wrong path. Dreaming big is a good thing, but let's be practical here, we dream only the success, never the hard work that needs to be put on to achieve that. A famous person once said that passion is just an idle person's idea, successful people just give their everything to a particular idea and if the number of hours put into that is sufficient, success will be achieved automatically. Biggest hurdles Before we move towards the dark side of success, let's talk about the herd mentality. We often becom...

How Bollywood ruined love

Image
The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about the kind of songs we produce in our country, most of the Bollywood songs revolve around one single topic,  LOVE . No matter the subject of the movie, it is almost impossible to find a movie without an angle of romantic love. I'm pretty sure that Bollywood directors would have forced a love story even in a movie like 'Man who knew infinity'. We've got so obsessed with love that we've forgotten about the other virtues of human life. Countless movies have been produced over the years in which love is the integral theme or the part of the narrative, love has been the most recurring theme in Bollywood movies. No matter how much we deny but these narratives have shaped our understanding of love and unfortunately this has ruined love for our generation. The way we love   today, to an extent is a direct consequence of the misguided ideas propagated in our movies.  Theory of Romanticism So, to understand how Bollywood rui...

Understanding story, plot and character

Image
Difference between plot and story Let me tell you an extremely simple story, "The king died and then the queen died" let's take a look at another story "The king died and then the queen died because of grief" . The difference between the two stories is, former on is just some events placed in a timeline but the latter is a story with a plot, it consists of a cause and that drives the plot of the story, here GRIEF  is the plot that drives the story. But it's not just the plot that drives the story, its characters also play a fundamental role in the advancement of the story. So, here's the big question, what is more important in a story, plot or its characters? Different people hold a different opinion about the issue, for instance, Robert Mckee says that at the heart of the storytelling, both plot and character are one and the same. On the other hand, Martin Scorsese says that people often forget the plot of the movie and remember the character in far gr...

The Dark Knight - Cinema at its best

Image
There has been plenty of good cinema, but in my opinion, Dark Knight combines all the great aspects of direction, storytelling, cinematography, and human behavior. Let's talk about what contributes to a great cinema, it is the nature of how a story evolves. Every movie has characters and a storyline, each character makes choices, and most of the time we are aware of the choices they are gonna make. For instance, all of us loved Avengers Endgame, but everyone knew that that antagonist is gonna lose ultimately, and due to this reason only, Endgame is not considered a great movie. On the other hand, the Dark knight is filled with unpredictability at each point in the movie. In most of the movies, there are sequences where a character does something and that has no impact on the overall storyline whereas in the Dark knight each character pays for their decision, even the smallest decision made by the insignificant characters has repercussions.  Let's delve deeper into one of the be...

Why most realtionships don't turn into a marriage

Before we answer our question, let's understand why marriage exists in the first place? Why people need marriages or a partner in their lives? When you were a child, your parents took care of you, they had your back, the only thing you cared about was playing. You grow a bit and got friends and school to support you. In college you made even better friends, more like brothers, at least I did. A common thing in all these stages of life, a support system, be it your friends or family. But, once you join the workforce, the support system is gone. You are most likely away from your family and friends, and this is where marriage or a need for a partner comes in. There are only a few kinds of people who can survive without a partner in their lives if they wish for it. For instance, monks have trained their body and mind to be independent of any emotional or physical need from another person, great teachers like APJ Abdul Kalam have their research and students to fill the need of a partne...

What a good college gives us

In my blog  Real cost of getting into a good college , I discussed how people like me missed out on our love stories because of focusing more on studying rather than looking to have a good time. This time I'll discuss what I learned and gained because of my studies. Most of my friends during school time used to look up to me as a person who was incapable of having fun, it was somewhat true. JEE preparation didn't allow me to hang out a lot. Discussing cartoons, solving HC Verma, and few bike rides pretty much summed up my school life. The only good thing for me back then was tuition and nothing else.  Most of my school friends ended up studying in private colleges of Delhi-NCR. These were the people who used to look down on me as a person who is a bore but things changed quickly. Their college was just like a school with a bigger campus and a lot more chicks. On the other hand, I moved to a new state to explore life and live on my own. Their college was so boring that mos...

Complicated life lessons

'Entire life is a misconception and all of us should thrive to remove as many as possible' ~ Unkown Career:  The most important thing for almost every one of us, right? Yes, it is important but there is a thin line between a career in life and career as life. You go and ask people, who are they? Often they reply something like Alex, Manager at XYZ corporation. Some people have fully imbibed their office personality into their personal lives. Everyone during college time was fighting to get the highest salary possible. All those who ended with a hefty package, still yearn for more. It's a vicious circle and almost none could escape it. Let me demonstrate what I meant to say by an example, you earn 50k and your expenditure is 30k, rest goes into saving. After a raise, your salary reaches 70k and your expenditure becomes 45k, again, rest goes into savings. Instead of enjoyment brought by extra money people savors the idea of having more money in their account. You could...
